President Bola Tinubu has made a major change in his administration. He recently appointed a new Head of the Civil Service of the Federation. The man chosen for this vital role is Mr. Abel Olumuyiwa Enitan. The official handover will happen shortly. Enitan assumes office on August 27, 2026. This update was shared by Bayo Onanuga, a special adviser to the President. Moreover, Nigerians are eager to see the positive changes he will bring. The Civil Service remains the true engine of the government. Therefore, strong and capable leadership is always necessary.

Who is Abel Olumuyiwa Enitan?

Abel Enitan is not new to the public system. He comes from Osun State and has vast administrative experience. Before this promotion, he worked in the Federal Ministry of Education. He held the position of Permanent Secretary there. In fact, he is currently the most senior Permanent Secretary in the Federal Civil Service. He has served in this capacity for over seven years. During this time, he worked across several important government sectors.

For instance, he served at the Ministry of Police Affairs. He also worked at the Ministry of Humanitarian Affairs. Additionally, he spent time at the Office of the Vice President. Therefore, he understands how the government works from the inside out. He holds a degree in Finance and Banking from the University of Lagos. Furthermore, he earned a Master's degree in Public Policy. His academic background is indeed solid and reliable.

The Departure of Didi Esther Walson-Jack

The outgoing Head of Service is Mrs. Didi Esther Walson-Jack. She is stepping down due to statutory civil service rules. Public servants must retire when they reach the age of 60. She has reached this milestone and will soon leave the service. President Tinubu praised her deeply in his official statement. He appreciated her lifelong dedication and hard work.

During her tenure, she introduced many positive reforms. She left a strong mark on the Nigerian public sector. The nation remains grateful for her impactful public service. However, it is now time for a new leader to take charge.

Expectations from the New Head of Service

President Tinubu has high hopes for Enitan. He wants the new leader to build on existing progress. The ultimate goal is to make the Civil Service better. Therefore, Enitan must focus on professionalism and overall efficiency. The president urged him to be highly innovative.

Moreover, the Civil Service must answer to the needs of everyday Nigerians. It must become merit-driven and strictly accountable. This vision aligns with the administration's Renewed Hope Agenda. Delivering on these promises requires serious focus and commitment.

Why This Appointment Matters

A strong Civil Service drives sustainable national development. When the leadership is effective, government policies work much better. Citizens receive improved public services as a direct result. Enitan's vast experience makes him a perfect fit for this heavy responsibility. He knows the daily challenges within the various federal ministries. Therefore, he can implement realistic and practical solutions.

We expect smoother operations across all federal agencies very soon. The transition period should be entirely seamless. Many experts believe Enitan will guide the system through much-needed reforms. His track record shows a consistent dedication to duty. The public sector needs this kind of steady hand right now. Time will definitely tell how his leadership will shape the nation's future.
