Man Sets School on Fire Over Girlfriend's Exam Fears

Love makes people do foolish things. But one young man in Egypt just took romantic desperation to a criminal level. He intentionally set his fiancée's school on fire because he thought she would fail her upcoming exams.

The 21-year-old suspect panicked over his wedding plans. He worried that poor academic results would force his fiancée to repeat the school year. A delayed graduation meant a delayed marriage. Instead of helping her study, he decided to burn the school down.

He sneaked onto the school premises in the Menoufia province, just north of Cairo. He started a blaze that quickly consumed the control room and the principal's office. Important student academic records went up in flames. Firefighters rushed to the scene and eventually extinguished the blaze. Fortunately, nobody suffered any injuries during the incident.

His escape plan was completely amateur. Witnesses spotted him fleeing the burning building. They gave local police exact descriptions of his appearance and told them where he was hiding. Law enforcement moved quickly. Similar to how swiftly police nabbed a fake drink producer in Akwa Ibom, authorities arrested the arsonist shortly after the fire. According to reports from NDTV, he fully confessed to the crime during his police interrogation.

He now faces severe arson charges. This wasn't a sophisticated criminal operation. It was driven entirely by blind panic.

The Egyptian Public Prosecution ordered his immediate detention. He remains in police custody pending a full trial. Local authorities confirmed the school needs significant structural repairs before students can safely return. The fire caused massive disruption to the entire community.

Meanwhile, the fiancée still has to face her academic reality. But now her future husband is facing years in an Egyptian prison.

It remains a grim reminder that desperate shortcuts never solve real problems. You cannot burn down an institution just to skip a test. His actions completely backfired. By trying to secure his wedding date, he guaranteed he won't be walking down the aisle anytime soon.
