Killaboi Testifies on Girlfriend's Messages in Court
Benjamin 'Killaboi' Nnanyereugo takes the stand in his Lagos murder trial, claiming his late girlfriend demanded ₦1.5m from another man for intimacy.

Benjamin Best Nnanyereugo, better known as Killaboi, stood before a Lagos court today. He's defending himself against charges of murdering his girlfriend, Augusta Onuwabhagbe. His latest testimony introduced startling claims about her final days.
He built his defense around a series of alleged text messages. He claimed he discovered a chat between Augusta and an unidentified man asking when she'd visit Lagos. Augusta allegedly replied she was available anytime. The discussion soon shifted to payment for intimacy, and Killaboi stated she refused to drop her asking price.
He told the court this discovery made him highly suspicious. He decided to trap her. He bought a virtual SIM card, setting up a fake WhatsApp profile with the other man's name and picture. He then resumed the chat under this fake identity.
Killaboi testified that he asked for her exact price, and she allegedly quoted ₦1.5 million. He countered with an offer of ₦800,000 to test her reaction. He claimed she rejected the lower amount because the meeting carried too much risk. He then asked if they should meet at a hotel or an apartment. She allegedly didn't mind either option.
The grim testimony continued from there. Killaboi said he finally agreed to the full ₦1.5 million. He even suggested a meeting without protection, demanding medical tests first. He claimed she quickly accepted these terms.
He described himself shaking as the chat unfolded. The messages supposedly caused a severe emotional breakdown. He decided to confront her immediately via a video call. When his face appeared on her screen, she allegedly screamed and dropped her phone. He claims this confrontation directly triggered the tragic events leading to her death.
Augusta’s death in July 2023 sparked massive outrage. Police reports showed her body was found mutilated in his Ajah apartment. Killaboi fled Nigeria shortly after the incident. He evaded justice for months using fake names. His escape route took him to Sierra Leone, where he reportedly bought a new citizenship for $25,000.
Authorities arrested him in Sierra Leone in late 2023, but he escaped during a chaotic prison break. He remained a fugitive until January 2025. Qatari authorities finally apprehended him in Doha, and they extradited him back to Nigeria three months later.
This complex manhunt shows the extreme lengths suspects go to avoid trial. It also mirrors other intense law enforcement efforts involving Nigerians abroad. We've seen similar long-arm justice in cases like the recent sentencing of two Nigerians for US cyber fraud.
The prosecution continues to press its murder case. Augusta’s family members have also testified against him. Her mother previously took the stand to recount their final conversations in heartbreaking detail. She described treating Killaboi like a son before the murder.
The court hasn't ruled on the weight of Killaboi's new evidence. Legal experts expect intense cross-examination in the coming days. The prosecution will likely challenge the authenticity of these WhatsApp messages. The defense team simply hopes this testimony explains the fatal confrontation.
For now, the trial remains ongoing. The presiding judge adjourned the matter to let both legal teams prepare their next arguments.
